The Biltmore Park Stingrays!

Stingray
The Stingrays Swim Team is a competitive swimming program that runs for 9 weeks over the summer. It is a great way for your children to learn swimming skills from beginning to competitive levels, and socialize with other children their age in the neighborhood. This program is ideal for confident swimmers ages 6+. They must be able to swim half the pool confidently to be on this team.

If your swimmer is not quite ready for the swim team, the PUPS Swim Lesson Program is ideal for 4-6 year old beginning swimmers, as well as older swimmers looking for more one-on-one instruction and coaching. This program is a week-by-week sign-up (also attached to this email).

Please read the attached document for all of the specific details about this wonderful community team and swim lesson program. Then, use the attached Google Forms to sign up for the Stingrays Swim Team and/or your PUPS Swim Lesson Program weeks. Note: Your place on the team and/or in the lesson program is not secured until we have received payment.

Please submit your application before April 30th, if possible. Please put your SWIMMER’S NAME in the SUBJECT LINE of your check or Venmo.

Required Parent Meeting:
7:00pm Tuesday, May 26th in the clubhouse.
The attendance of at least one parent is required, as we need to confirm contact info and have all liability forms signed before your child’s first practice. This is also an opportunity to meet other parents, go over expectations, and ask any questions.

Volunteer Requirement:
All families will be required to volunteer 2 times over the course of the swim season. This is very easy to fulfill, and you may find that once you do, you will want to volunteer more. It is a great way to get involved, meet your neighbors, become more knowledgeable in the sport, and be a part of the fun. The kids love seeing parents and families supporting them, too. We need many hands to make our meets run successfully and smoothly, before, during, and after the meets. We will send sign-ups via Sign-up Genius before each week (in the coaches’ weekly letter) for set up, clean up, timers, strokes and turns, clerk of the course, ribbons, runners, snacks, computer help, concession help, etc. We know families are busy, and if you are not able to volunteer during the season, we do assess a non-volunteer fee at the end of the season. Fees: $100/not volunteering 2 times or $50/volunteering 1 time. This helps offset the costs incurred from additional staffing at meets.

Non-Residents:
A maximum of 20% of our team may be non-residents, but this will be dependent on how many Biltmore Park swimmers we have signed up by May. Non-residents will be notified after May 5th. Please do not send money via Venmo, as if you are not on the team, you will be refunded only net of fees, not the entire amount. You need to send a check to secure your deposit. It will not be cashed until after you have been notified about being part of the team.

Communications:
We will be using the SportsYou app for all team communications, including weather-related closures. Please plan to be at the parent meeting to sign-up for this.

SAFE SWIMMING NOTE: Our coaching staff takes great pride in advancing the skills of each swimmer in a safe, teachable environment. We will be taking every measure to make sure that this summer’s program, as in the past, is safe and fun for all of our swimmers. Swim team members, child or adult, who are disruptive/disrespectful or do not follow the rules, pose a safety hazard to
our practices, meets, and swimmers. Any swimmer who does not adhere to the safety guidelines may be asked at any time to discontinue practicing and quit the team, without refund. Any adult who exhibits disrespectful or disruptive behavior may be asked not to attend our practices or meets.

All swimmers will receive a Stingray Swim Team T-shirt if you sign up by April 30th, thanks to our league t-shirt sponsor, Blue Ridge Orthodontics.

Swim Team Business Sponsorship:
Would you like to be a swim team business sponsor? For $250, you can have your logo on our team banner (up all season) as well as on our email correspondences, and an opportunity to promote your business at one of our home swim meets. If you are interested, please contact our sponsorship liaison, Sandra Bilbray (SandraBilbray@gmail.com ), about this and other ways you can get involved.

PUPS Swim Lessons Information:
The PUPS Pre-Team program is a one-on-one lesson program designed to help younger swimmers (ages 4-6) build confidence and independence in the water, while also preparing them to join the swim team. These lessons are taught by our swim team coaches, who are all well-versed in the skills
necessary for becoming a confident and competent swimmer. While the program is designed for younger swimmers, ages 4-6, some older swimmers, who are not yet ready for the swim team, may also benefit from this program before joining the team. We offer Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced/Pre-Team lessons, depending on the child’s previous level of experience in the water.
