Our neighborhood is often the home for several bears.  For your safety, do not approach or attempt to feed bears.   If your dog suddenly appears fearful or has frantic barking, beware - a bear may be near.   Keep your pets away from bears!

 

To avoid attracting bears, keep your garbage cans inside your garage.   Do not leave your garbage can out overnight, as a hungry bear may dump it.

 

Pet food and bird feeders are very attractive to bears.   Avoid keeping these food sources outside your home.  Bears can smell food from miles away, and will travel here to find them. 

 

The City of Asheville offers bear-proof garbage cans for a fee.
