Our neighborhood is often the home for several bears.  For your safety, do not approach or attempt to feed bears.   If your dog suddenly appears fearful or has frantic barking, beware - a bear may be near.   Keep your pets away from bears!

 

To avoid attracting bears, keep your garbage cans inside your garage.   Do not leave you garbage can out overnight, as it may get dumped by a hungry bear.

 

Pet food and bird feeders are very attractive to bears.   Avoid keeping these food sources outside your home.  Bears can smell food from miles away, and will travel here to find them. 

 

Bear-proof garbage cans are available from the City of Asheville, for a fee.
